Ingredients:
340 g lean minced beef
2 tbls of onion
1 tsp of mixed herbs
1 clove of garlic crushed or half a teaspoon of garlic granules.
1 can of tomatoes
2 tbls of tomato paste
Half a cup of water.
Method:
Use a very large lidded frying pan or heavy based pan with lid. Brown the minced beef. Add all other ingredients, and simmer slowly for 30 – 40 minutes. Stir occasionally.
Cook 225 g of noodles in boiling water. You can use small pasta shapes instead.
To make the cheese sauce:
Ingredients:
1 egg yolk, slightly beaten
2 tbls of butter or margarine
1 tbls of plain flour
200 ml of milk
Mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Half a cup of each ( or cheese of choice )
Chopped onion ( optional )
Method:
Melt the butter/ margarine in a pan. Add the flour stirring until thickened. Slowly add the milk and continue stirring until smooth.
Add the cheese and stir until melted.
Add the onion if using.
The sauce needs to cool for about 10 minutes. Add the egg and stir.
In an ovenproof dish, layer the meat and noodles / pasta, and top with the sauce.
Bake in the oven at 180°C for 25- 30 minutes.
