Homemade Pitta Breads

Ingredients:

  • 250g bread flour
  • 1 sachet yeast
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 160ml warm water
  • Olive Oil

Method:

  1. Mix together the flour, yeast, salt and 1½ teaspoons of oil. Add the water a little at a time until you form a soft dough
  2. Pour a little oil onto the work surface and knead the dough for for 5-10 minutes. Place it into a clean, oiled bowl. Cover and leave to prove until doubled in size (around 1 hour)
  3. Preheat the oven to 250c and place a clean baking tray inside
  4. Once the dough has risen, put it on a floured surface and knock it back. Split into 4-6 equally sized balls and roll each into an oval shape around 5mm thick
  5. Remove the hot tray from the oven, dust with flour and place the pitta breads on it
  6. Bake for 5 minutes, or until they just start to colour. The pitta bread should puff up in whilst cooking. Remove them from the oven and cover with a clean cloth
